How I spent Earth Day: With everything that is going on in the world, it was time for a reset. Normally, I avoid outside. You see, most sunny days, give me headaches. So, why make myself miserable, I just stay inside. I love a cloudy, rainy day. Usually, they make me happiest. Personally, I think, that means I am a positive person and can see the bright side of life. However, with all the panic and worry of life, I have been craving sunshine and outdoors. Lately, my most depressing days, have been the cloudy ones. What is going on with me?
Lucky for me, we live in the great state of South Dakota and my husband is a farmer. I happen to know of a wonderful spot in one of his fields. It is a dugout and I am sure that others also like it. As I drove up, the birds were flying away from me. Even as I parked, a few pheasants were trying to hide, but I saw them.
While walking across the field, I swear I could see an eagle flying. Okay, it may not have been one, by it was a large bird. Either way, the breeze was blowing and the sun was shining. It was so refreshing. When I reached the edge of the dugout, I found a spot to sit down. Of course, I scared most of the wildlife away. Nonetheless, I sat there, hoping to catch a glimpse of something. I did see a muskrat swimming in the water.
As I sat, the sun would sometimes go behind a cloud, and things would be shaded for a little while. In the distance, in one direction was town and another was the highway with trucks driving by. Either way, the only sounds I could hear, were of the natural world, and nothing man-made. I had to resist the urge to lay back, and take a nap. After all, there could be snakes or something. Never mind, that I was already sitting on the ground.
Being out there, was exactly what I needed. Taking in the sights and sounds of the day, brought of much relief to my soul. How blessed are we to live where we do? To have the ability to go outside and recharge, is such a blessing. There is no place else I would rather live than in this amazing state.
